In My Kitchen – March 2016

My chubby body had a chance to take a little rest from the kitchen for two weeks. It’s not that I liked it or I haven’t planned anything to cook or bake, but I missed some ingredients a few times and so lazy to go out. So I thought that was my body’s way to take things slow. Ahh, it’s a good thing when you have some saved recipes to blog about. 😀

Anyways, I am here to share with you my little stuffs for this month’s IMK post. But before that, I want to thank Maureen @ The Orgasmic Chef for hosting IMK. ❤

In my kitchen…

…is a medium sized sauté pan. It’s been a long time since I wanted to have my own sauté pan and I am very much happy that I found one. This is not too big and not too small. Just enough. Uhm, maybe if I make Shakshuka, I can put two eggs. Yay! I am so excited to use this and make something delicious. And besides, it’s lovely to place this pan straight to the table and shoot! 😀

IMK, March 2016 7

In my kitchen…

…is this pretty mat and uhm, something like a turner? I got the “turner” because I don’t have a plate that can hold the size of the chiffon cake. The chiffon cake is about 13″ round and my plates are smaller than that. These two makes pretty props, too. Yes?

IMK, March 2016 1

In my kitchen…

…are these three spices which are new tenants in my little pantry. And I am so excited to use them. IMK, March 2016 5

In my kitchen…

…is also another new tenant in my pantry. This is another sign that I am really starting to go out from my comfort zone! Yay!

IMK, March 2016 4

In my kitchen…

…are these dried fava beans. I am going to try making Ful Medames from scratch, so wish me luck! 😀

IMK, March 2016

(Can you say that my kitchen for the next months would smell aromatic?)

In my kitchen…

…is my first homemade Sweet Chili Sauce with my new jar. I tell you – the chili sauce was completely awesome.

Sweet Chili Sauce - TNSCC 2

Last but not the least…

Let me just share with you the hot chocolate I have made from Tablea de Cacao which I posted in my last month’s IMK.

This is called ‘Tsokolate‘ – Filipino Hot Chocolate. Yum! 😀

Tsokolate - TNSCC 2

That’s all folks! 😉 I hope you enjoyed what you have seen and thank you for being with me.

In My Kitchen – February 2016

Hello, lovely people! Welcome to my little kitchen. 🙂 I’ve missed last month’s IMK as I was still adjusting with my time after the given additional working hours at my workplace. Anyway,  I am happy to be here once again as Maureen @ The Orgasmic Chef is hosting In My Kitchen series.

In my kitchen…

…is this ground coffee from the Philippines. I think this is our version of espresso powder as the smell is very close. I love this coffee a lot and I am having a cup of this almost everyday. IMK Feb 2015 1

In my kitchen…

…is a packet of Tablea de Cacao or chocolate tablet.

IMK Feb 2015 2

Now, saying that this is a packet of tablet, I am not saying that these are medicines. 😀 Of course, you know that they are not. These chocolate tablets are Philippine’s version of cocoa. You might ask what’s the difference between these tablets and the cocoa powder. These tablets contains something like a butter that when processed and turned into powder, the butter disappears. These are how they look –

IMK Feb 2015 3

I still haven’t used them, but I am thinking of turning them into Tsokolate, which is the Philippine version of hot chocolate. I am sure when I use them, I will share it to you. 😉

In my kitchen…

… are these goodies from Trader Joe’s which I got online. The cookies are all gone by now. 😀

IMK Feb 2015 5

In my kitchen…

…are cookie butters from Trader Joe’s, also I got them online. I love these and I am thinking of getting some again before they disappear.

IMK Feb 2015 6

In my kitchen…

…are these containers, given by my friend. They are not printed, but I love them because I can see what’s inside. 😀

IMK Feb 2015 7

In my kitchen…

…are these pretty little bowls. They were candle holders when I bought them, but I’ve thought of using them as a bowl when the candles have melted and gone because they are so pretty.

IMK Feb 2015 9

In my kitchen…

…is a scale. Finally. I really had no plan of getting one because I told myself that there are conversion charts, but sometimes, it’s really not a good day to get your head in pain just converting measurements… so I decided it’s time to get one and I must say that it is really, really useful. Good decision, Jhuls!!

IMK Feb 2015 8

In my kitchen…

…are these Filipino Coconut Macaroons which I baked to bring at my workplace and so I will have something to munch on when I get back home after an exhausting day. I still have three sitting in the same bowl. 😀 My container is currently occupied, so the poor little macaroons settled  for the bowl.

IMK Feb 2015 4

That’s all folks! 😉 I hope you enjoyed what you have seen and thank you for being with me.

In My Kitchen – December 2015

I am glad to take part in In My Kitchen series hosted by Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial which took place over five years ago. Really an accomplishment, I must say. Sad to know that this month will the final month where Celia is hosting the series. Starting January 2016, it will be hosted by Maureen @ Orgasmic Chef.

My life was unorganized the past few months, thus, missing to IMK posts. But I am glad that I am back in the circle now.. and I am hoping that it will continue like that. 🙂

In my kitchen…

…are these cute little tins of different kinds of teas. Some are gifts and some I bought for me when we were in Hong Kong. I saw these from the airport and I just couldn’t resist. We were on a package tour, so I was not able to roam around and enjoy more teas… so… I thought it was right to take these.

IMK - Dec 2015 6

In my kitchen…

…is another tin of black tea – a gift from a lovely friend. She knows me very well. 😀

IMK - Dec 2015 5

In my kitchen…

…is this ceramic dish – also a gift from a generous friend. She gave this together with a salad, but the salad dived into my tummy… so it didn’t reach the next day to do the photo shoot. 😀 IMK - Dec 2015 2

In my kitchen…

…are these sort of cereal bowls (?). I really love the design of these bowls. If only I could manage to carry all of the cups and plates with this design, I should have taken them all. 😀

IMK - Dec 2015 3

In my kitchen…

…are these cups and saucers. I loved the ‘style’ of the saucer and I’ve been eyeing on these for months. I promised myself not to stuff the cupboard with everything, so I only took these.

IMK - Dec 2015 4

In my kitchen…

…are these pretty measuring cups – gift from a wonderful friend. 🙂 I must say that these are my new favorite measuring cups.

IMK - Dec 2015 1

I used them already and so excited to make the post, but I got a major meltdown of the frosting that the photo did not look so appealing. So I will have to bake another batch soon. Oh well, that’s good news, I guess – I get to eat them again! Oh my, they were delicious. Will share them soon! 😀

IMK - Dec 2015 7

And did you say you saw a Nutella spoon?

In my kitchen…

…is this beautiful Nutella spoon – another gift from a wonderful friend. She also knows me very well. Good timing, I had a big jar of Nutella. 😀

IMK Dec 2015 10

I am also sharing these lovely foods in my kitchen which were inspired by my travel to Hong Kong and Macau.

The Char Siu Chicken (Chinese BBQ) which pairs very nice with Chili Garlic Oil.

I made Char Siu Chicken in the first place to fill these Asado Buns. Oh, they were so delicious – with all those tasty chicken BBQ filling and sweet buns.

Asado Buns - The Not So Creative Cook 3

‘Boats’ of pineapple fried rice. They are so tasty and delicious. Don’t tell me I am creative in doing the pineapple cuts because I didn’t do that. My cousin did. 😀

Pineapple Fried Rice - TNSCC

Not but not the least –

I was invited by a lovely friend to their home and offered to teach me on how to do Brioche. She showed me everything and I did half of the work. Bonus – she let me took the Brioche with me. 😀

IMK dec 2015 11

I am so glad to have you in my little kitchen today. You can still show us yours until 10th of December and be sure to link it up to Celia. 🙂

Wishing you a day full of smiles! 😀 😀 😀

In My Kitchen – September 2015

Welcome to my kitchen…

Work load for the past months was really crazy. Still it is. My mind was very busy thinking how to manage my time and what to blog. My kicthen, on the other hand, was not that busy like the earlier months. Even my kitchen cupboards got bored not seeing new stuffs. But now, my favorite place is happy having these…

In my kitchen…

…are these tartlet pans – 12 cm in size and perfect for individual servings. I have Googled so many wonderful tartlet recipes and I am so excited to use these babies. 🙂

IMK, Sept 2015 3

In my kitchen…

…are these cupcake/muffin liners. They are so pretty that I can’t help myself. I have been seeing these for too long, but I told myself I need to finish the old ones first. Do you think I finished the old ones before I got these? Of course not! 😛 I still have the old liners sitting, waiting to be used.

IMK, Sept 2015 5

In my kitchen…

…are these mini spatulas. They are so lovely to use, aren’t they?

IMK, Sept 2015 2

In my kitchen…

…are these paper straws. Well, they are for props. What else? 😀 I didn’t think twice when I bought these – they are too beautiful.

IMK, Sept 2015

In my kitchen…

…is a polka dot tray and a vintage cup and saucer. These are one of my favorites. I think i am going to get more trays and cups and saucers. 😀

IMK, Sept 2015 6

In my kitchen…

…are these Dioul sheets. These were given by a generous, kind and sweet friend. I have already used some when I made Bourek (will share next time, I promise) and oh my, these are the best…

IMK, Sept 2015 7

Just look how pretty the sheets are…

IMK, Sept 2015 8

In my kitchen…

…was Parmigiano cheese. I was supposed to take Parmesan. That’s what happens when you are not focused. Nonetheless, this worked best with the gorgeous muffins.

IMK, Sept 2015 4

Some of the highlights in my kitchen:

My version of Selma’s Gorgeous Tiny Cheese Muffins – they were so cute and so cheesy.

My version of Elaine’s famous chickpeas and potatoes – absolutely, absolutely perfect!! I could eat the whole pan.

In My Kitchen – July 2015

Welcome to my kitchen once again…

I thought I’d miss IMK July post as I have not been out for sometime now, except when passing by a grocery store on my way home from work to buy something to cook for Iftar (time to break the fast). I tried my best to capture photos of our meals during Iftar, but I did not get good results.

Anyways, I am happy that I get to welcome you once again in my kitchen…

In my kitchen…

…is a jar of Durian jam. This jam is staple during Ramadan in our home. I am not a Durian fruit eater, but I love this jam a lot.

IMK - The Not So Creative Cook 4

IMK - The Not So Creative Cook 3

I am a lover of tea and I really want to fill my pantry with all flavors I could find, but I don’t think I’d be able to live a day with tea alone. Well, I drink about 7 cups of tea a day… but not this Ramadan.

In my kitchen…

…is a TWG Silver Moon Tea (a gift from my cousin).

IMK - The Not So Creative Cook 2

This is a blend of green teas accented with a grand berry and vanilla bouquet, with a hint of spice. The smell alone is just beyond amazing.

IMK - The Not So Creative Cook 1

Few days ago, I was invited for an Iftar by an amazing friend. She prepare a feast for us and everything  is superb! Unfortunately, I haven’t tried the homemade ice cream as we were picked up from her home  a little earlier. I super duper enjoyed the food, the conversation and everything that night. It was one of the most amazing nights. She is awesome that I got to take home these:

Almond Cigars –

IMK - The Not So Creative Cook 7

I think this is Apricot Tart –

IMK - The Not So Creative Cook 6

Chorba with (I think) Semolina Bread – I am saddened by the incident that the soup spilled inside the car. 😦

IMK - The Not So Creative Cook 9

Bourek – I am just crazy about these.

IMK - The Not So Creative Cook 5

And the most famous my Brioche Crown 😛

IMK - The Not So Creative Cook 10

The most beautiful crown. 😀 And I just love those sugar bits on top.

IMK - The Not So Creative Cook 11

And while we were chatting, I have mentioned that I love Harissa. She gladly took this from her pantry and gave it to me – yay for me. 😀 😀 😀

IMK - The Not So Creative Cook 8

There’s still the dish called Chicken Tajine (I think), but it’s all gone – I haven’t taken a photo. I devoured them like a beast for Suhoor (early morning meal for one who is observing Ramadan).

I hope you enjoyed peeking. Thanks to Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial, the mind behind In My Kitchen. Please join us before 10th of July and make sure to link it back to Celia.

Have a fabulous day to everyone. 😉

In My Kitchen – June 2015

I can’t believe how time flies to fast. It feels that it was just yesterday when I was writing my IMK – May 2015 post. Oh, well. Time flies when you’re having fun, yeah? Last month was full of ups and downs, but you have to get up and tell yourself that everything will be okay, eventually.

June makes me excited at some point considering that Ramadan is coming in about 10 days. For those who are not aware, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar where Muslims worldwide observe fasting from dawn till sunset. During this month, I don’t usually go out that much due to the hot weather. Gladly, I have made my last trip to the mall before Ramadan comes. 😀

In my kitchen…

…was this mess while making my cut out cookies. I made it Ramadan-themed so I made these shapes.

DSC_1221

Cut Out Cookies @ The Not So Creative Cook 2

In my kitchen…

…are these jars given by a friend of mine. It comes in box with 3 jars – 1 liter, 0.75 and 0.50.

IMG_0324

And I have already used the other one to put Dates:

IMG_0320

In my kitchen…

…are these, um, I forgot what are these. 😀 I got these free from cans of Nestle condensed milk. I found them adorable, so I took them home with me. 🙂

IMG_0327In my kitchen…

…are these tea towels which I thought I would not buy. I returned to the shop thrice and just looked at these. Maybe checking if its still available?? I don’t know. But something tells me that I have to come back for the fourth time and bring these with me. So, I obeyed. 😀IMG_0329

In my kitchen…

…is this individual tea tin. And this, my friends, did not need thinking. I just took it as soon as I saw it. It’s like love at first sight. ❤

IMG_0331

In my kitchen…

…is this pizza crisper which my friend gave me. She likes thin crust pizza and she got this for me to make her a thin crust pizza. And of course, just because she knows that I would love this. 😀

IMG_0328

…which, by the way, this is the first thing I made (please forgive the photo – its not that photogenic)

In My Kitchen – May 2015

First, I want to thank Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for hosting In My Kitchen every month which we get to peek at each other’s favorite place – the kitchen! 😉

Another month has gone – welcome, May! I hope your last month was fun! 🙂

April was a little busy and tiring month for me. Whenever I plan to do something for the weekend, I just can’t make it due to the tiring weekdays.

It’s so unusual that I haven’t got anything for myself this month except for a tea towel which is currently in the deepest part of the laundry basket (will post it next month), gel food colors and chocolates for baking… though I have stuffs from my friend.

In my kitchen…

…are these mason jars. Since I realized how cute mason jars are, I’ve always wanted to buy some. However, due to the exploding stuffs I have in the kitchen, I decided not think of it. One day, my friend just came into the idea of buying me jars – so thoughtful and sweet. So I got three without handle and one with handle.

The Not So Creative Cook - IMK (3)

In my kitchen…

…is a fondant icing smoother. Since the first week of April, I was planning to make fondant icing to celebrate my blog’s two years (April 23), but I didn’t make it – I was too tired to even bake a cake during the first week. I tried to postpone it, but still, my body can’t. Maybe some other day.

The Not So Creative Cook - IMK (1)

In my kitchen…

…are these food colors. The blue is from a friend and I bought the other three. I tried making meringue (for the third time) but it was tangy (haha). I think the cream of tartar expired (eww!).  From oven to garbage can – that’s what happened. 😦

The Not So Creative Cook - IMK (5)

In my kitchen…

…are these  Hershey’s chocolates for baking. I still haven’t used them and stock them up with the ones I bought last month. I just hope they don’t reach the expiry date. 😀 I remember seeing one recipe that uses unsweetened chocolate, but I really can’t remember it. Most probably cookies or cupcakes. Hmm, I will let you know when I remember it. 😉

The Not So Creative Cook - IMK (4)

Let me ask you – what do you feel when you make something and you don’t like it 100%? Me, considering that it’s still edible, of course, I still eat them. 🙂

In my kitchen…

…are these Pandesal. They look different from each other, they look funny! I did make the dough at night at let it stay in the fridge overnight. The next morning, (1) I waited it to become room temperature, (2) kneaded the dough for few minutes, (3) cut them individually, (4) waited for them to rise and (5) baked them. The bread pieces were still very soft and delicious – they just have different shapes. 😀

The Not So Creative Cook - IMK (7)

And I love it with chocolate ice cream. ❤

The Not So Creative Cook - IMK (6)

In my kitchen…

…is Shakshuka. This is my first time on Shakshuka. It was delicious, but I was looking for a texture. I got crushed tomatoes instead of chopped and I did not add anything with texture aside from green peas. It was tangy, but I love it sweet. Do you have any idea what to add to make it sweeter aside from sugar? I mean a healthy one?? Or is Shakhshuka supposed to be tangy??

The Not So Creative Cook - IMK (8)

 Last but not the least…

You remember the Terry’s Chocolate Orange I had on my IMK April 2015?

In my kitchen…

…are these Chocolate Orange Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting to celebrate my two years of blogging since the cake with fondant icing was not done. I prefer them though with whipped cream/cream cheese frosting, but this turned out good, too.

The Not So Creative Cook - IMK (2)

I hope you enjoyed peeking into my kitchen. Now, it’s your turn. Join Celia and the rest of the gang and share what’s going on in your kitchen. Make sure to do it before 10th of May. We are looking forward to it. 😉

Have a fabulous day!

In My Kitchen – April 2015

Hello, dear friends. Again, welcome to my kitchen where you could see new stuffs I bought/given to me.

Once again, thank you to Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial for hosting In My Kitchen every month. This month, she has so many lovely stuffs in her kitchen. Come and visit her blog to see those. 😉

Now, let me bring you to mine…

In my kitchen is a food processor…

IMK The Not So Creative Cook (1)

Years back, my friend bought a DSLR camera with free food processor. She asked me if I want to take the food processor and I said ‘No’ and I told her to give it to her Mom. I was not baking that time and my blog doesn’t exist yet. But my first reason of not taking it was I didn’t know what to do with it. My desire to buy a food processor did not arrive until I started a blog.

IMK The Not So Creative Cook (2)

Wanna know what’s the first thing I made with it? Elaine’s Red Pepper Hummus. 😀 I really loved it with salted crackers. Yum! (Elaine, I think mine is too watery. Is it because I used capsicum??)

IMK The Not So Creative Cook (3)

In my kitchen is a timer…

IMK The Not So Creative Cook (10)

I mostly use my phone as a timer when I bake. My friend told me to buy a timer, and I told her I am satisfied with my phone, that I don’t want it. Recently, I finally gave up and bought a timer. It’s cute, yes?

In my kitchen are these beautiful spatulas…

IMK The Not So Creative Cook (4)

I have two spatulas already, both having the same color – grey and white. When I saw these, I just couldn’t help myself but to take them home. I told myself that I sometimes ‘need’ separate spatulas while baking multiple recipes. I guess having a blog really gives you reason to buy more stuffs for your props. 😀

In my kitchen…

Whisker. Infuser.

IMK The Not So Creative Cook (6)

The whisker is a gift from my friend.

The infuser is a set of two. I am using the other one when I drink my tea and I am putting mint leaves so I don’t have to remove them using a teaspoon.

In my kitchen is a flour sifter. How easy it is to sift flour now? 😀

IMK The Not So Creative Cook (5)

Now, let’s go to the edible ones:

In my kitchen is a bottle of sliced olives…

IMK The Not So Creative Cook (9)

When I made my first pizza, I bought fresh olives, expecting that those were pitted olives. Later on, a friend suggested keeping a bottle of sliced olives so anytime I want to make pizza or use them in something else, I have it on hand.

In my kitchen is a pack of ladyfingers…

IMK The Not So Creative Cook (11)

What am I going to do with these? Hmm, are you thinking of Tiramisu? Not quite. I have something very divine for you, but you will have to wait until I make them. 😀

In my kitchen is Angel Flake Sweetened Coconut…

IMK The Not So Creative Cook (7)

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Impossible Coconut Flan… Yes, please!! I have made it before (recipe here), but I want to make it again… or maybe I will try another recipe as there are so many amazing recipes with coconut. Ooohhh, I am so excited.

In my kitchen is Terry’s Dark Chocolate Orange…

IMK The Not So Creative Cook (8)

I saw this multiple times, virtually – the chocolate alone, with cakes and cupcakes. I love chocolate orange since I was a kid and I have thought of getting one for me. When I saw one, I did not take it – it’s expensive for me. But when I got home, I can’t sleep. The next weekend, I got one. 😀

I hope you enjoy the little peek. 😀 Join us before the 10th of April and let us take a peek inside your kitchen.

Have a wonderful week to everyone!

In my Kitchen – March 2015

First of all, I want to thank everyone who welcomed me during my first IMK post. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Now, for the post this month –

In my kitchen…

…is a new pressure cooker. 😀 I have an issue with regards to cooking beef or any other food for a long time. I love beef and I’d love to cook a lot of beef recipes, so I was very much delighted when my friend gave me this beautiful pressure cooker. As my way of saying thank you, I cooked one of her favorite dishes called Nilagang Baka in the Philippines or literally translated as Boiled Beef (photo below). Selma is right – the result will be amazing!

IMK Mar 2015-thenotsocreativecook (11)

NilagangBaka-thenotsocreativecook3In my kitchen…

…is a pizza cutter. Before I made my first pizza, I felt that I needed to have a pizza cutter, so I got myself one. I told my self ‘No pizza cutter, no pizza.’ I know – it’s crazy. 😀 Also, my friend gave me the other one which is a can opener. Isn’t she really an angel?

IMK Mar 2015-thenotsocreativecook (10)In my kitchen…

…is this amazing grater with container. I can now grate and use the same container to keep the remaining inside the fridge. This comes with small and large grater.

IMK Mar 2015-thenotsocreativecook (9)For my IMK post for this month, I am also going to share the stuffs I usually have in my kitchen… oh, I mean the edible ones – Filipino. 😉

In my kitchen…

…is a pack of dried fish. I don’t know what kind of fish is this or how this is made; I just take this from the market. Filipinos love different kinds of dried fish and this usually pairs fried rice or just plain rice during breakfast. 😀

IMK Mar 2015-thenotsocreativecook (7)In my kitchen…

…is a spiced vinegar. We use to make this as a dipping sauce for our fried fish (or anything fried) or we mix this with chopped tomatoes and onions.

IMK Mar 2015-thenotsocreativecook (6)In my kitchen…

…is a chocolate drink called Milo. This is my favorite since I was a kid. But take this note – we don’t always use this as a drink. Hmm, what do you think we do other than drinking or mix this with baked goods? Okay, I will tell you – we get a small plate, drop tablespoons of Milo and then get pieces of white bread – make it as a spread or mop the Milo with the bread. 😛 I do that until now – I think all Filipinos do. 😀 Also, in my kitchen is a pack of iced tea which is Calamansi flavor. I love the lemon flavor more, but this is what I found. I could drink about two liters of iced tea in a day. When I was on an unhealthy diet, I used to drink 1 liter of iced tea with three pieces slightly salted biscuits and that’s twice or thrice a day – no food other than that. By doing so, I did lose about 10 pounds in a month.

IMK Mar 2015-thenotsocreativecook (2)In my kitchen…

…are salted duck eggs. These are cured for too long inside a jar with water and salt. No, I did not make this – I don’t have that enough patient to wait. 😀 These go well with the spiced vinegar or mixed with tomatoes.

IMK Mar 2015-thenotsocreativecook (8)In my kitchen…

…is a Milkfish. Do you have like this in your country? Or have you tried this? This is delicious when grilled or when stuffed. I am lazy when it comes to grilling and I am not yet ready for the stuffed one, so the only thing I do with this is fry (haha) and make it as soup.

IMK Mar 2015-thenotsocreativecook (1)

IMK Mar 2015-thenotsocreativecook (4)

IMK Mar 2015-thenotsocreativecook (5)In my kitchen…

…is one Filipino meal using Milkfish and fried eggplants, chopped onions and tomatoes with soy sauce and vinegar. We can have this for breakfast, lunch or dinner – we really don’t care about the time. 😀

IMK Mar 2015-thenotsocreativecook (3)That’s all I have for now. I hope you enjoy my IMK post and stop by Celia @ Fig Jam and Lime Cordial to peek at others’ kitchen. Come on, I know you’d love to. 😉

I hope you join us before 10th of March. Thank you, Celia, for this wonderful place to share what’s in our kitchen.

Have a wonderful week to everyone!
