In My Kitchen – February 2016

Hello, lovely people! Welcome to my little kitchen. πŸ™‚ I’ve missed last month’s IMK as I was still adjusting with my time after the given additional working hours at my workplace. Anyway, Β I am happy to be here once again as Maureen @ The Orgasmic ChefΒ is hosting In My Kitchen series.

In my kitchen…

…is this ground coffee from the Philippines. I think this is our version of espresso powder as the smell is very close. I love this coffee a lot and I am having a cup of this almost everyday.Β IMK Feb 2015 1

In my kitchen…

…is a packet of Tablea de Cacao or chocolate tablet.

IMK Feb 2015 2

Now, saying that this is a packet of tablet, I am not saying that these are medicines. πŸ˜€ Of course, you know that they are not. These chocolate tablets are Philippine’s version of cocoa. You might ask what’s the difference between these tablets and the cocoa powder. These tablets contains something like a butter that when processed and turned into powder, the butter disappears. These are how they look –

I still haven’t used them, but I am thinking of turning them intoΒ Tsokolate, which is the Philippine version of hot chocolate. I am sure when I use them, I will share it to you. πŸ˜‰

In my kitchen…

… are these goodies from Trader Joe’s which I got online. The cookies are all gone by now. πŸ˜€

In my kitchen…

…are cookie butters from Trader Joe’s, also I got them online. I love these and I am thinking of getting some again before they disappear.

In my kitchen…

…are these containers, given by my friend. They are not printed, but I love them because I can see what’s inside. πŸ˜€

In my kitchen…

…are these pretty little bowls. They were candle holders when I bought them, but I’ve thought of using them as a bowl when the candles have melted and gone because they are so pretty.

In my kitchen…

…is a scale. Finally. I really had no plan of getting one because I told myself that there are conversion charts, but sometimes, it’s really not a good day to get your head in pain just converting measurements… so I decided it’s time to get one and I must say that it is really, really useful. Good decision, Jhuls!!

In my kitchen…

…are these Filipino Coconut Macaroons which I baked to bring at my workplace and so I will have something to munch on when I get back home after an exhausting day. I still have three sitting in the same bowl. πŸ˜€ My container is currently occupied, so the poor little macaroons settled Β for the bowl.

  1. Did you get those little floral bowls/once-were-candle-holders from Ikea Jhuls? I saw them last week & was going to get some. I may head back to get some as I just love small bowls πŸ˜‰ I’m intrigued with your cocao tablets – look forward to seeing what you make. Lovey meeting you for #IMK x

    1. The bowls were from IKEA. Take more than two if you can. They are so pretty when turned into bowls – great for dipping sauces and little/individual servings for snack or dessert. πŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by. x

  2. I would keep those candle-holder/bowls as well! So pretty! I love your new scale – so handy! My parents have one but it’s up high and I can’t reach (even on a chair!) but my sister’s has proved very helpful, indeed. I love the tablet chocolate! How interesting.

    Have a good February, Jhuls!

  3. Can’t wait to see what you make with the cocoa tablets, I’ve never seen them before. I was so excited when Trader Joe’s finally opened a store in my city a couple years ago, I can understand why you ordered the cookie butter and other goodies! I couldn’t survive without my scale either, especially when baking many of my German recipes. Sometimes my husband has the nerve to take the scale to his workshop and forgets to bring it back, making me hunt it down!

    1. I am scared that the Trader Joe’s goodies disappear quickly. πŸ˜€
I’ve been using my scale all the time, it is really helpful. Thanks for stopping by, Gretchen. x

  4. Those bowls are sooo cool. I’d never have guessed they were once candles!

And yes, having a kitchen scale is a wonderful thing — sometimes I want to give weights in recipes I post rather than just say, take a bunch of this or that.

    1. I agree, especially when it comes to handful of something. I was like ‘what if my handful is not the same as theirs?’ But thankfully, I have not encountered stuffs like that. Thanks for stopping by. πŸ™‚

  5. All those Philippine goodies are really interesting, particularly the chocolate ‘tablets’. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with them! As for the Trader Joe’s goodies, I had no idea you could order online. I always look at American blog posts enviously, with all the interesting nut butters etc. I will have to put in an order myself (oh no, I’m gonna be broke!). Gorgeous post Jhuls x

    1. The tablets are waiting for me to use them. I am still thinking of possible recipes. I have to check from my good friend named Google. πŸ˜€ Thanks, Laura. Glad you liked the post. I wish you are having a fantastic weekend. Have a fab week ahead. πŸ™‚

  6. Congratulations on moving up to using a scale. I’d be lost without mine. Your cocoa powder is really cool as are all your Trader Joe goodies. You have wonderful things in your kitchen!

    1. I am all over Trader Joe goodies. I just love everything I have tried. This scale is my BFF now. πŸ˜€ Thanks a lot for stopping by & and for hosting, Maureen.
      Best wishes,
      Jhuls x

  7. I love those pretty little pink bowls Jhuls, I too would have wanted to make use of them after the candles had finished. My parents bought me some digital scales a couple of years back – I can honestly say I couldn’t live without them now – they are so precise being able to weigh in 1 gram increments is so useful. I’m looking forward to seeing what you make with the cocoa tablet.

    1. I am loving my digital scale a lot and I don’t care now if they recipe calls for grams or cups. No headache in converting now. πŸ˜€ I’d be more thank happy to share what I do with the tablets. I am still thinking of other recipes. πŸ™‚ Thanks, Angela. x

    1. Absolutely. In fact, I am keeping a recipe called ‘Cookie Butter Cloud Cookies’, but I am saving the half bottles (half are all gone – I ate them straight from the jar and put them in my oatmeal) for cupcakes. πŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by.
